PUB@HUB - the low down

On the evening of 13 August, The Innovation Hub was host to one hundred and thirty five esteemed guests at their monthly Pub@Hub Networking Event in the Auditorium 1. This buzzing event was attended by members of the Innov08 community - knowledge economy society - including Blue Catalyst, Women in Finance, Izazi Entrepreneurship and the long term (Blue Label) members from government departments, private sector, academic institution and research institutions.

In recognition of attaining his Blue Label member status in the Innov8 community, Dr Neville Comins, previous CEO of The Innovation Hub, was presented with a prestigious Award.

Guests were welcomed by Paul Bisogno, Innovation Hubs’ Business Development, Marketing- & Value-Added Services Manager, who outlined the evening’s proceedings. Steve Dold, a representative from Women in Finance, the first speaker of the evening, focused his presentation on Financial Management for Entrepreneurs, providing invaluable tips on accounting in the business environment, the decoding of financial terminology and the successful compilation of critical documents such as Balance Sheets and Income Statements.
The “mystery speaker” of the evening was Paul Bisogno himself, who captivated the audience with his fascinating lecture on Lateral Dominant Brain Profiles, which touched on human behaviour and the effect of left-and right brain functions on personalities. By the end of his talk, listeners became aware of their individual attributes and could form a conclusion on which part of the brain impacted them most.
Wrapping up the evening, was Mark Corke from Suitegum Sells Businesses, specialists and advisors of business sales. “Preparing a Business for sale should ideally be undertaken well in advance of the actual act. We advise on how to make this part of your overall exit strategy in disposing of your business”. Mark pointed out a startling number of business owners that do not prepare their businesses for sale in case of any unforeseen eventuality, be it death or bankruptcy, and highlighted some of the consequences that follow. He explained how preparation in advance and constant updating of all business related documents can streamline an otherwise disruptive process. Mark runs seminars on this topic throughout the country. For more information go to www.prepareyourbusinessforsale.co.za
The rest of the fabulous evening was filled with laughter, networking and productive discussions on ways to improve business efforts, relations and profits!
