INSITE08
A number of Innovation Hub tenants partook in the annual INSITE08 exhibition, an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, focusing on the South African youth with the aim of promoting careers in Science, Innovation, and Technology. The exhibition coincided with the IASP World Conference in Sandton. Companies of The Innovation Hub that exhibited independently are I-Kno, Tshumisano Trust, AMTS Fablab and Biopad. Also in attendance was the City of Tshwane who joined forces with NetCB, SPSmart and Qsens to create a “super stand”. The Tshwane Smart City team collaborated with TIH companies to demonstrate how the technologies developed in a Science Park can not only assist in solving typical challenges faced by communities, but also aid the City in enhanced service delivery to its community. “Exhibitions like INSITE 2008 are important for the City of Tshwane and this year the city was exhibiting under the theme of ‘City of Tshwane - creative minds are working together for a Smart City’. The presence of the City of Tshwane at the exhibition was to highlight that Tshwane has all the elements for being a Smart City, with a strong knowledge base and infrastructure for broadband connectivity that will allow for lowering the cost of doing business in the City and help in creating jobs and alleviating poverty,” elaborates Jeanette Morwane, Coordinator of The Smart City Project. The participating tenants of The Innovation Hub, found themselves in the company of many other businesses that exhibited their products, services and knowledge to thousands of visitors consisting of students, science enthusiasts as well as key role players in the industry.
